DescriptionCarl and Karin Larsson’s home in Sundborn, in Dalarna, is one of the most famous artist’s homes in the Nordic countries. At the turn of the century in 1900, the view of the home had changed. Houses were no longer to be designed around the expectations of bourgeois society, but instead the home and family were to serve as role models in building modern society. The home was to be characterised by individual taste, family life and creativity.
The Larssons’ home in Sundborn was constantly changing with new interior design and new buildings. The last building project took place in 1912 with the extension and construction of Carl Larsson’s new studio. The same year, he painted a portrait of himself in his new studio, here shown in the middle of the creative moment. The portrait shows the Larssons’ home environment but also things that inspired Carl Larsson himself, like the sculpture of a woman by his colleague Anders Zorn, the cloth embroidered by Karin, and the book that evokes the academic tradition.ExhibitionsSamlingen - The Collection, Malmö Konstmuseum, våning 2, 12.06.2021
